Character Information
Name: Nyx Ulric
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: end of the movie aka his death
Age: 32
History: FFXV wiki on Nyx Ulric

Personality:
Three words to describe Nyx Ulric are: Big Damn Hero. He's a man who fights to protect the city of Insomnia and, more importantly, the future for those who wish to see it. As a skilled fighter for the Elite Guard of the Lucian Royal Family - The Kingsglaive - Nyx is confident in his skills and abilities as a fighter and shows next to no fear on the battlefield and in combat. The bigger they are, the harder they fall as far as he's concerned and much like the Big Damn Hero type would, he never gives up, even when the odds are stacked so very high against him... and your team essentially betrays you and the King you serve.

He's selfless, never putting his own life before another's, and risks the consequences of disobeying orders or being reprimanded in reaching out to protect others such as saving his best friend Libertus in a battle when he was told to pretty much leave him, or rushing in to demand he speak with King Regis when he discovered Lunafreya had been kidnapped. A gutsy thing for a Glaive of all people to demand they, essentially, speak with their boss and not the other way around. Royalty has protocols after all. But he's so selfless that when asked to choose between sacrificing Luna or Libertus' life for the Ring's power, he basically tells the Old Kings to go f--- themselves because he won't choose and instead, offers his life, claiming his own is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

His selflessness, however, can sometimes come across as arrogance such as the whole barging into the throne room and demanding he speak with King Regis or when speaking to the Old Kings and basically calling them cowards for not protecting their city they had sworn to protect. Needless to say, they definitely didn't look to him with much favor in their ghostly eyes at first. It's not that he means to be arrogant nor that he lacks the respect for others, especially in higher rank. Nyx simply has a tendency to go with what he feels inside, tell it like it is, and takes whatever consequences come as a result of those feelings and actions.

He's loyal to those he feels indebted to and his friends, remaining by King Regis' side even when his comrades/the Glaives betray him and wish to see King Regis fall. With Regis having saved and taken him in as a Glaive, the loyalty he has for the King and his son, Prince Noctis, is nothing that can be bought or taken from him. There's a few times where his loyalty is tested, where the attempt to sway him from Regis is made. But even in the short moment where Nyx questions Regis' motives - is that the way of our King? Sacrifice Lucian sons to save his own? - his loyalty never wavers and he stays by King Regis' side until his death. He takes his work as a Glaive seriously and chooses to live and die as one, even when everything is falling apart around him. Some find this strange or stupid of him given his not being a native or proper citizen of Insomnia. Because he hails from Galahd, he's considered a foreigner within Insomnia and as such, is often regarded as less than by certain others. He knows what it's like to be seen and treated as an outsider, having been insulted and the like which he always brushes off; it's just not worth it to him.

His strengths definitely lie more in combat as he isn't one to really talk much about himself and would rather listen to what someone else has to say. He's the kind of guy who will just sit there quietly with you and be that silent support like he did for Libertus when Crowe was killed. He might not always know what the right thing to say is, but you can be damn sure that he will be there with you either way. When he does open up, it's usually about heavier thoughts or things he keeps to himself like his sister's death which he came to share with Luna in a short but quiet moment together. Things that keep him up at night, things he'd even rather forget. It's just better to not talk about them and focus on something else as far as he's concerned. But even though he will do his best to support you, he's also not against being blunt or telling you what a stupid idea this or that is. Look, cool as he can be, even he has limits with his patience. Especially when it comes to princesses he's trying to keep alive throwing themselves out of a flying ship that he's piloting. Yeah, Luna sure did that to him.

But despite his being a selfless Big Damn Hero, Nyx also harbors a great deal of guilt for the death of his sister and, depending how you want to look at it, could even extend to the death of King Regis. Anything concerning his sister or King Regis could serve as a sensitive topic for him with having felt powerless to do anything for them and there's even been times where sudden flashbacks of his sister's death have hindered him in battle. It's this guilt he carries with him which pushes him to be better, to not let others down, to not lose anyone else in his life. No matter the cost. Titus Drautos is also a bit of a sore spot for him since he was his mentor throughout his Glaive training and found him to be a traitor siding with the Empire which completely floored him, never mind that a great number of the Glaives themselves turned on Insomnia. To have not been able to see the seeds of treachery sown throughout the Glaive is something that he carries with him throughout his fight for Insomnia.

He's also willing to do whatever it takes to help/save others and has disobeyed direct orders not to in the past as a result. Again, the cost or consequences, so long as they only impact him, don't matter. He's not about to put others at risk for him and not one to leave someone behind because he was told to. Yes, he did get reprimanded and punished for that. Oh well, worth it as far as he's concerned. The thought of being unable to save his friends isn't anything he can accept or really live with without the guilt eating away at him. As far as he's concerned, better him than those he cares about.

Abilities & Skills:
Nyx is a member of the Kingsglaive which is an elite royal guard of sorts and the strongest soldiers of Lucis. As such, Nyx is highly skilled in combat, both hand-to-hand and with weaponry, typically swords or daggers.

The Glaives, as they serve the King of Lucis (King Regis), are tied to the King's magic and are capable of wielding it much as the King himself would. This includes the ability to create and project Fire and bolts of Lightning from his hands as well as create protective Shields around himself or others.

The other ability is Warping which Nyx does by throwing his kukris/daggers from point A to point B. He can't magically appear/teleport/warp anywhere as he can only go the distance of his kukris/daggers when thrown. Handy little visual here for reference.

Seeing how one gets stripped of their powers when coming to Aefenglom and he would need to be tied to Noctis' magic as he was with King Regis, especially for the warping, none of the magic stuff really matters much. It's just more for reference and an idea of how he fights/utilizes his skills.

Inventory/Companions:
- tattered Kingsglaive uniform
- one of his two kukris (daggers) since he lost the other in battle

Choice: Witch
Reason: I lost one witch, so bringing in another? Also just because in canon Nyx doesn't have access to magic but has wielded it when tied to King Regis. Being able to wield his own magic and not borrow or siphon it from another and learn how to utilize it in combat is something Nyx will have to adjust to and take on for himself with all the negative backlash that comes with it. Things he never had to deal with before because King Regis dealt with that. Not him.

also something quick just in case
[ So he's down a dagger, looks like a damn mess, but at least he's still alive? Good news there. Maybe. Not what the deal was with the Old Kings but, then again, he gets the feeling he's not in Kansas Insomnia anymore. The tip off? Nothing is on fire and falling apart. Just a little bit obvious there. Though that begs the question of just where in the hell he actually is then. The afterlife? Doesn't really give off that vibe. You know, talking monsters and all sort of being the giveaway there. Right. Definitely got himself landed somewhere else somehow and he's honestly wondering if this is some damn joke pulled on him by the Old Kings. Then again? They don't really strike him as the humorous type.

That's when he finds himself at The Coven as it's referred to as and he goes through the whole song and dance of where he is, what in the actual hell is going on, and... he's a witch. Apparently. Or at least that's what they seem so damn hellbent on claiming he is. He corrects them first, saying that he's part of King Regis' Glaive but they seem to wave that off. Doesn't matter here or something. Funny because... it sure as hell matters to him and he says as much when he pushes his way past them and makes his way out of the place. Take this, read that. Sure. He takes it with him as he makes his way down the steps and just stands there. Looking lost in, quite frankly, a number of ways.

Glancing down to the book he has, he flips through it, not really paying much attention to what's in it before he sighs and looks off ahead. ]

Witch, huh? Right. [ he scoffs to himself, book snapping shut in the palm of his hand. ]'cause that sure fits me to a T.

[ With the book dropped off to the side, he takes his single kukri out and twirls it around in his hand, making his way off through the city. ]
